Lake Alleghe has not always existed: it was created by a landslide from Monte Piz in 1771, which dammed the Cordevole and submerged three villages. Today that stretch of water at a thousand metres, with Monte Civetta reflected in it, is the most recognisable image of the Agordino. The Civetta ski area starts here — eighty kilometres of slopes — and the Alta Via no. 1 passes through; the village has a long ice-hockey tradition.
The Dolomitissime office in Alleghe is in Piazza J. F. Kennedy, steps from the lake: it handles sales and short lets in one of the most photographed villages in the Dolomites.
